What We Do

* Mission Teams/Volunteers

We host between 15 and 20 short-term mission teams a year; most are faith-based, some are "secular." Among other accomplishments, these teams have

• built over 50 complete, reinforced concrete block houses for indigenous families
• provided over 100 days of free village medical or dental clinics (with medicine)
• enjoyed fun Bible school, educational or athletic events with children
• ... And more, all while enjoying evenings in colorful, funky Panajachel

* Flexible Humanitarian Relief

Under the direction of our relief director, Porch de Salomon provides food (Guatemala ranks #4 in chronic malnutrition worldwide, per UNICEF), clothing, housing, medicine, surgery, transportation, small business opportunities (like chicken coops), alcohol/drug rehabilitation and more to hundreds of families; indigenous, Ladino and other.

* Solomon's Porch Cafe

This important part of our ministry serves the locals, "Anglo" expatriates and world tourists who seek adventure, meaning and more in Panajachel. We help meet the need for accessible, culturally-current ministry in this eclectic and challenging community. Our facility serves coffee, food/beverages, live music and cinema, and hosts our weekly worship gathering as well as school and community functions.

* Live Music Outreach

Lloyd, Melanie and others' long-term involvement in Panajachel's live-music and bar scene (most recently in the band MarcoTrio Electric) has been a great dialogue builder among folks skeptical about our work. This has also been an eye-opener and "breath of fresh air" to visitors who are accustomed to more conventional expressions of faith.

* Help Churches and Folks Transform (Romans 12)

As one of Central America's most progressive Jesus-based ministries, and with our low-overhead/high-impact/ "incarnational" approach to service, we have seen many of our team members and partner churches change for the good-from religion-to-relationship and from maintenance-to-mission. Our leadership is passionate about helping this continue!
